LITTLE SPARTA

Saturday 31st MarchDoors 7:30pm £7/£5 members & concessions Little Sparta + Live Shadow Puppetry by Richard Mansfield and Cath Connolly Little Sparta is a London based band that have been experimenting with their musical presentation over the last 5 years Namely with the poet Gerry Mitchell. This performance is the beginning of a journey to create a complete production based around the music of Little Sparta and using techniques of puppetry, cinema, animation and theatre. In the summer of 2007 Little Sparta will be in residence at The Little Angel Theatre in Islington as part of the INCUBATE season that offers the chance for unique ideas based around puppetry to be explored; Little Sparta are the first band to do so. The latest release form Little Sparta, with poet Gerry Mitchell, was chosen as Single of the Week by both Drowned in Sound and Playlouder with an earlier EP (Scalpel Slice) receiving 7/10 on Pitchfork media in Feb of 2006. A new record will be released on Fire Records in the summer of 2007 entitled The Ragged Garden and features the highly acclaimed Feasting on my Heart. Richard Mansfield and Cath Connolly will be performing live shadow puppetry for this show. They work together as Theatre de Strange and are intrigued by possibilities of shadow puppetry and collaborations with other art forms, as puppeteers they are committed to developing the art form and making new connections outside of the traditional spheres. www.littlesparta.com
