The Museum of Sex Objects is delighted to present Claire Lawrie's 2018 film, BEYOND 'There's Always a black Issue Dear'. This award-winning film explores and celebrates black LGBTQ identities and the huge influence of black LGBTQ Culture. From ballet dancing schoolboys to make-up-wearing, gender-fluid school days, the cast's experiences shed new light on the U.K. in the 1970s/80s, creating their own identities in a time when, 'if you were black, you could be either Reggae or Soul'. The documentary spans an era where Soul and Disco, Punks and Blitz Kids met in underground clubs like The Four Aces in Dalston and Crackers in Soho, through to the explosion of queer culture at Taboo. BEYOND beautifully captures a crucial historical period.

The screening will last 30 minutes, and be followed by a live Q&A..
