Saturday 14th JuneDoors 7:30pm £5/£4 members & concessions Headlining a selection of short works by BURKE ROBERTS, Founder of Los Angeles Based underground film movement: THE BIZZURKE ARMY www.bizzurkearmy.com Featuring a rare sneak preview of: 'THE ENGINE a documentary in progress'. In the spring of 2007, Los Angeles Underground Film pioneer Burke Roberts enlisted the help of his guerilla film militia for an ambitious project - the tackling of new concepts in unique cinema presentation. A movement both imminent and ripe with possibility. This 28 min. cut of a documentary that will follow 'THE ENGINE' for the next 4 years captures why and how these Anti-Hollywood, Hollywood artists are pushing for the redefinition of multimedia to fill a void in the film and art scene of their barren city. On a shoe string budget the Bizzurke Army fabricates a high end transportable screening unit with a complex, kinetic steel sculpture as the centerpiece holding the screen. After over four thousand man hours of blood, sweat, and more blood - THE ENGINE is complete in its form, and sets sail for its function. www.theenginetheater.com + Jon Klein: Taxi (Digital video 4mins 30 secs) Taxi investigates the notion of travel through the re-enactment of cinematic references. An extract from the script of Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' is narrated in three languages, over film of taxi rides through the respective cities, underscored by a short repetitive loop taken from Bernard Herman's soundtrack. "Taxi is about transporting a certain viewpoint across the world and seeing it fully functional. The cities, although very different, seem to merge together seamlessly, whilst the narrator tells the same story. The only detail that reveals that we are actually in a fake is when the driver tells us of the 300, 350 a week that he earns, which makes no real sense in any of the currencies." STRANGE NATURE Filmed on location in the mystical scenery of Dungeness in March 2008 - Strange Nature is the first film project from long term collaborators - The McCarricks and Jon Klein. Actor - Mark English Music by The McCarricks Directed by Jon Klein.
