Monooka’s Caravan
Saturday 18 June at 8.30 p.m.
Romanian singer-songwriter Monooka founded Monooka’s Caravan last year to perform traditional songs from the Carpathian mountains in an innovative collaboration with three British musicians: fiddler Meg Hamilton, guitarist Matt Bacon and double bassist Liran Donin. With refreshing spontaneity and enthusiasm Monooka blends the fiery Romanian, Serbian and Gypsy songs of her roots with a more western European jazzy, contemporary sound. Tonight’s DJ will be Garth Cartwright, author of Princes Amongst Men: Journeys with Gypsy Musicians and More Miles Than Money: Journeys Through American Music (Serpent’s Tail).
