ASHLEY PAUL

Ashley Paul is an American performer and composer based in London. She uses an array of instruments including saxophone, clarinet, voice, guitar, bells and percussion, mixing disparate elements to create a colorful palate of sound that works its way into her intuitive songs; free forming, introverted melodies. This blend manifests beautiful and simple musical forms against acoustic experimentation.

Ashley has performed or recorded with Phill Niblock, Rashad Becker, Nik Colk Void, Loren Connors, Heatsick, Aki Onda, C. Spencer Yeh, Anthony Coleman, Bass Clef, Joe Maneri, Joe Morris, Seijiro Murayama, Greg Kelley, Bill Nace and Eli Keszler appearing on such labels as Important, PAN, ESP-DISK’ and Tzadik. She received a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in 2007.

CITY VEGETABLES

The red and blue boxes are singing in the street outside of your house.  Sweeping concrete dust, skateboarding woods, a rake through the soil of plastic flowers.  Some of the above, seagulls always above…talking about the weather on their mobile phones.

A new solo project by cartoonist Malcy Duff begun in 2015, using unrecyclable packaging, recordings and voice.

HUGH METCALFE

Hugh Metcalfe is a musician and filmmaker from London and Suffolk. He is best known as the promoter of The Klinker Club in London, which he has run in various venues since 1982. He plays guitar, violin, hi-hat and gas mask. He performs in several bands including Bicycle Clip Sex, The Small Faeces, The Cross-Dressed Quartet and Fuck Off Batman. He also performed with noted sound poet Bob Cobbing, saxophonist Lol Coxhill and dancer Jennifer Pike in Birdyak, up until Cobbing’s death in 2002.

Metcalfe’s experimental film work began in 1978, and uses 8mm film methods to produce silent films, often used later as a springboard for free musical improvisation, either by Metcalfe himself or other musicians. During some of the 1980s, Metcalfe ran a record label, ‘Klinkerzoundz’, releasing records by Metcalfe, Cobbing, the Bow Gamelan Ensemble, and more.
