A welcome return to the Horse Hospital for Jack Sargeant, who is in town to present a very special one-off screening of Jon Hewitt's cult DARKLOVESTORY (2006). The first in the trilogy that includes X: NIGHT OF VENGEANCE (released last month on UK screens), DARKLOVESTORY is a hardboiled noir thriller set in Sydney's Kings Cross, the antipodean city's legendary red light district. Telling the story of a young couple utterly sunk in a world of crime, drowning as they try to escape, surrounded by players all working an angle, this is a grim world where everybody out for something. Combining a brutal noir vibe with an underground aesthetic and a vision of neon darkness, this movie is guerilla style genre filmmaking at its best. Needless to say this low budget feature won best film, actor and actress at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.
