Edward Barber
Visual Athletics ClubExhibition NOW EXTENDED To Friday 8th June 2007 To incorporate The Declaration of Independence Film Festival Mon - Sat 12 - 6pm Private View - Friday 4 May 6-8pm "Always be looking". That's the guiding principle behind Edward Barber's approach to photography and to his latest exhibition Visual Athletics Club at The Horse Hospital. Using a series of diptychs to create third effects and different meanings, Barber takes us on a journey that denies the original context of the images. It defies categorisation and disorientates the viewer as we move across countries and collide with familiar yet unfamiliar scenes and details from our globalised world. Playful and reflective, the work warmly invites us to make new visual connections. Edward Barber is a photographic artist, specialising in images of people and their relationship to space and environment. Barber is best known for his portraiture, through major projects such as Peace Moves, All Dressed Up, In the City and 15:18 Teenagers in their Rooms. In Visual Athletics Club Barber reveals a selection of images from his archive, spanning ten years and crossing four continents. These observations, shot on 35mm plastic and disposable cameras, portray his love of light, objects and architecture. Edward Barber is the Director of Programmes for Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion and runs the unique BA (Hons) Fashion Photography course. He has lectured, written and exhibited widely - including at Tate Britain; The Photographers' Gallery, London; National Portrait Gallery; Museum of London; Flowers East, London; Side Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne; Hibernian Academy, Dublin; Hereford Photography Festival; Dazed & Confused, London; Fashionspace, London.
